The Juneteenth Experience
Celebrating Juneteenth on the Island
Sponsored by
Franchell Boswell Educational Foundation, Inc.
In its continuing efforts to enhance the life experiences of young people, the Franchell Boswell Educational Foundation, Inc. is sponsoring “The Juneteenth Experience” on the beautiful, historic island of Galveston, Texas. In observance of the first national holiday in honor of Juneteenth, the Boswell Foundation is providing an opportunity for our young people to learn about the history of African Americans in this state and nation and the important role African Americans play in today’s society.
In commemoration of this special day in American history, the students will participate in awareness sessions and visit historic sites that represent an incredible journey from 1865 to 2022. The official recognition of Juneteenth presents a moment in time for the Boswell Foundation to make an important investment in today’s youth with the expectation that they will honor and respect our forefathers and the monumental sacrifices they made to ensure that we enjoy a better life today.
Good Evening Everyone,
Just a few reminders as we prepare for the trip. The buses will depart from the parking lot near the Houston Area Urban League Office, 5300 Griggs @ Martin Luther King, Houston, TX at 6:30 am. We are expected to arrive in Galveston by 8:00 am.
It is recommended to grab breakfast prior to loading the bus to depart from Houston. You may pack a personal size lunch bag or cooler to bring additional snacks.
Everyone will receive a box lunch.
The attire is casual comfortable. Everyone is expected to wear the navy blue Juneteenth Experience shirt. Khaki pants, khaki capri shorts, jeans, jean shorts are acceptable. Please do not wear jeans or shorts with holes, cut off jeans, short shorts, do- rags or bonnets.
Comfortable shoes are stressed for this trip. We anticipate a lot of walking in the sun.
We plan to visit the open portion of the Pleasure Pier. There are no water activities during this trip.
Parents may give extra money for the kids to purchase additional snacks or souvenirs during the trip.
Thank you again for registering for this historical experience.
I will see you in the morning.
